Great topic!

Some people expect SNAP recipients to be all:

But it wasn’t until politicians started taking “food stamps challenges” that the mainstream media began to report that average SNAP allocations are not enough to eat healthily.

Still, most people are all:

Policy makers repeatedly try to restrict what food can be purchased with benefits, perpetuating the myth that low-income people are unable to make their own decisions and ignoring policies like redlining that prevent entire communities from regular access to healthy food.

Even though the average benefits are typically not sufficient, the racist, classist myth of the welfare queen persists.

Like many social welfare programs, SNAP gets blamed for the federal budget deficit, even though Moody’s Analytics estimates “that in a weak economy, every $1 increase in SNAP benefits generates $1.71 in economic activity.”

And did you know that SNAP is limited to those with gross income up to 130% of the federal poverty line, yet income from capital gains does not disqualify you from receiving benefits?
