AcademicTyra’s Guide to Emailing TAs and Professors

Listen up, people.

Despite growing up with the internet, many of you don’t know how to communicate with your instructors. Let us school you.

#1. Use a greeting.

image

Shocking. Who knew people wanted to be addressed by their names rather than “hey”?!

#2. Say who you are and the class/section. You may think you’re a special snowflake, but there are tons of you.

#3. Spell out your goddamn words. This is the college edition.

#4. Say “please” and “thank you”, especially when asking for special consideration.

image

#5. Make sure your attachments have unique filenames, including your last name and the course info. DO NOT attach “midterm.docx”!

Instead, try “Banks ANTM101 Midterm.docx”. Seriously.

#6. Don’t demand things.

We don’t work for you.
